Busy Season Stress Relief

Busy season is underway and the office stress level is increasing with each passing day. When stress levels are high, productivity declines. When productivity declines, the amount of time spent in the office increases. The increase in office hours creates sleep deprivation.  Sleep deprivation over a period of time causes fatigue, irritability, and the inability to concentrate which leads to numerous mistakes and errors.  With over two months remaining during this busy time of year, managing stress is essential but who has the time.

Here is a quick 10 minute break that can help reduce stress and create more energy for you and everyone in your office.  It is a game called ZIP-ZAP-ZOP.  What, you never heard of this instant stress reliever? Here are the rules of the game or go to YouTube and search for ZIP-ZAP-ZOP.

Everyone stands in a circle. Start the game by pointing at another person in the circle and saying “Zip.” That person, with no hesitation, must immediately point to another person and say “Zap.” That person must, in turn, immediately point to another person and say “Zop.” And that person must immediately point to someone else and say “Zip.”

The goal is to pass the words and energy around as quickly as possible, which is harder than it seems. Improvisational groups use this as a warm-up before going on stage, to establish teamwork, encourage quick thinking and create energy for the group. When stress drops, productivity increases. It is a win-win for everyone.
